Festival of Learning 2023: Safeguarding Bumps to Babies

The Festival of Learning is organised by the Multi-Agency Learning & Development Group of the Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland Safeguarding Children Partnerships. It is a week-long event offering a programme of both in-person and online training sessions, focused on a particular theme.

In 2023, the Festival of Learning ran from 1st-7th November and focused on Safeguarding Bumps and Babies. This was to look at learning around the Safeguarding Children Partnerships' Business Plan Priority on "Safeguarding Babies – Improving how we work together with families before and after births to safeguard babies".

Over the course of the week, there were 15 sessions. The Festival was introduced by a Key Note speech from Jane Wiffin, who looked at the womb as the baby's first home. The sessions covered a broad spectrum of topics, looking at services from good quality childcare, through to the legal processes of pre-birth assessments and taking children into care and safeguarding themes such as domestic abuse (in particular coercive reproduction), parental conflict, drugs and alcohol, safer sleeping, ICON (shaken baby syndrome) and working in a trauma-informed way.

We are sharing the recordings of the sessions, where possible, including the film of the in-person opening session with the key note speaker.
